Recently, we had the privilege of sitting in one of our four literacy classes in remote Nepal.

That evening the students came in one by one.

They all took their shoes off as is custom in many parts of Asia, and sat down on the church carpet. I greeted them saying hello, when I noticed the pastor came to class as well. I didn’t think anything of it since, after all, this was his church where we were meeting.

However, I was in for a surprise when I discovered the pastor was one of the students!

This amazing servant-leader eagerly comes to class twice a week, week after week. We watched as he listened and worked on his letters and spelling. He was never given the opportunity to learn to read when he was younger, so now he is faithfully studying so he can read the Bible and help his community grow in the Lord.

When we asked more about him, we found out he was the first converted Christian in this village. This made him the senior believer, which then qualified him to lead the new church!

Imagine that! In this part of the unreached world, people don’t have time or money to go to Bible School for four years before they can start teaching. Sometimes, God has to start using them right away, but that also means they have to learn on the job.

We had to ask the question we all were thinking, “If he is unable to read how can he teach from the Word of God?”

They told us, “He listens to the Bible and to various teachings made available to him through other pastors in Nepal. From this, he is able to teach and share with the people.”

After all the Bible does say that faith comes by hearing and hearing by the Word of God!

Praise God! It is amazing to see how God is growing the body of believers in this part of the world.

We were so blessed to see this and to know our literacy class is not only helping farmers learn to read and write but a new pastor in this community as well!

There are many adults in the remote parts still unable to read and write because education was so limited when they were young. Our goal over this year is to continue to add literacy classes through-out Nepal in as many villages we can! As the Gospel is spreading in these remote parts, it’s also critical for people to be able to read from the Word of God for themselves. We need your continued help to do this!

If you’d like to be a part of this outreach you can donate at our giving page here. We really need more, small ($10-50) monthly partners to join us in spreading the love of Jesus all over Nepal (and in the USA)!

Thank you for being a wonderful blessing to people in this part of the world. It is making a difference!

All in for Jesus!
